Change your name or password
The name Mnemox shows, and the password you sign in with.
What it is for
Your name is what the account menu and Settings show, so it is worth getting right if Google gave you an odd one. A password is how you keep signing in if you ever lose access to Google, or want to sign in on a machine where you are not signed into Google.
How to use it
- Open Settings → Account (press ⌘, from your notes, or choose Settings in the account menu).
- Preferred name: type the name you want and press Enter or click away. "Saved" appears beside it. Leave it empty to go back to the name from Google.
- Password: choose Change password, enter your current password and the new one twice.
- Signed up with Google or Apple? You see Set a password instead. Set one and you can also sign in with your email and that password — it is the same account either way.
Examples
Google shows your full legal name
Type the name you go by. Mnemox uses it everywhere from then on, and signing in with Google again does not change it back.
A work laptop without your Google account
Set a password once on your own machine. On the work laptop choose Log in → Email and use your address and that password.
Good to know
- Changing or setting a password signs out every other device. The one you are on stays signed in. That is deliberate: if someone else knew the old password, they lose access at the same moment.
- Your preferred name only changes Mnemox. Your Google profile is untouched.
- Changing your email address is not available yet.
